THE STRENGTHENING OF THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM
Short description of the project
The project represents the modernisation of the existing fleet in which 32 new buses will be procured and put into operation. Within the project, information displays will be introduced at bus stops, smart traffic lights will be located at junctions and a mobile and web application for announcing the arrival of buses will be developed. The project represents the modernisation of the existing vehicle fleet.
The aims of the project:
Improving capacity by increasing travel speeds and reducing operating costs, improving traffic reliability and safety, reducing emissions of harmful gases and air pollution, increasing the number of passengers on public transport compared to passenger cars, adapting to EU standards, introducing modern passenger information systems and increasing the availability of information for passengers.
Expected results of the project:
A new passenger fleet was procured and put into operation, information displays at bus stops were introduced, smart traffic lights were introduced at junctions and a mobile and web application for announcing the arrival of buses was developed.

On Thursday, 2nd July 2020, in the Salon of the City of Rijeka, a press conference was held at which the EU project ‘Strengthening of the public transport system’ was presented and agreements were signed for the procurement of another 32 new buses for the Autotrolej utility company.
The conference was attended by the Mayor of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel, his deputies Marko Filipović and Nikola Ivaniš, the President of the City Council of the City of Rijeka Andrej Poropat, the Director of Autotrolej Alberto Kontuš, the Director of Rijeka Promet Plc. Spomenka Mičetić and representatives of the bus suppliers: Mario Fabek, Zvonko Gabud and Marin Klemenčić from the company Auto Hrvatska Prodajno Servisni Centri Ltd. and Robert Vrhovski and Igor Oštrić on behalf of Autobus Plc.
The ‘Strengthening the public transport system’ project is the modernisation of the existing fleet as well as the complete public transport services in which 32 new buses will be procured and put into operation.
Funds for the implementation of the project were provided from the Cohesion Fund through the Operational Programme ‘Competitiveness and Cohesion’ (OPCC). The total value of the project is 81,003,357.91 HRK, whilst the approved EU grants within this amount are 54,563,477 HRK. The total eligible costs amount to 65,602,795.91 HRK, and the rest of the funds were provided by Autotrolej Ltd. and the project partners the City of Rijeka and Rijeka Promet Ltd.
Alongside the procurement of 32 new buses, within the project, information displays will be introduced at bus stops, smart traffic lights will be located at junctions, and a mobile and web application for announcing the arrival of buses will be developed.
In another way, during the last year, 22 new buses were procured via the ‘No regret’ project from the EU Cohesion Fund, when 38 million HRK of grants were secured.

Short description of the project
The aim of the project, which will last 20 months, is to provide a sustainable and quality transport service to citizens by purchasing 22 new buses. The new buses will provide greater comfort to passengers because they mostly have seats and are structurally designed for longer journeys. All the vehicles procured meet the strict standards of the Euro 6 exhaust gas standard. The project represents the modernisation of the existing fleet of vehicles, all with the aim of ensuring a higher quality standard for passengers, the improving of capacity by increasing travel speed and reducing operating costs, the improving of reliability and safety, reducing harmful gas emissions and air pollution, the increase in the number of passengers using public transport in relation to personal cars and adjustment to EU standards.
